Looking Ahead: Sweep The Mess?

They came to Denver not yet a mess. One more loss and they'll leave town in shambles.

Winning homestand secured, now it's time for these Rockies to get greedy and vicious. Step on somebody's throat. Beat up on the less fortunate. Pile up some W's before we get deep into division play.

If you can't tell, I want this game today really bad. Not only for the sadistic reasons mentioned above, but because winning De La Rosa's starts is just as important as winning Ubaldo's. Jorge is practicially your second ace. Chances are really good he's going to keep you in it, so I like to take advantage of that.  Puts less pressure on the bottom of the rotation.

Mike Pelfrey takes the ball for New York. He's the proud owner of half their wins this season, including their most recent win last Friday against Washington. We saw the best (six shutout innings in New York) and worst (seven runs, four innings in Denver) of him last season. If I had to guess I'd say it'll be closer to the Denver game this time around. Let's see what the simulation has to say.

Lineup Card

LF Smith
CF Fowler
1B Giambi
SS Tulowitzki
RF Spilborghs
C Olivo
3B Mora
2B Barmes
P De LaRosa

Helton gets another day early. Stewart needs a day badly. Plus Giambi and Mora need the ABs.

Simulation

Rockies 9, Mets 6

The starters were decent. Pelfrey (5 IP, 3 ER, 8 H, 3 K); De La Rosa (6 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 3 K)

The bullpens... not so much. Mets (3 IP, 6 ER, 9 H, BB, 2 K); Betancourt (1 IP 3 ER, 4 H, BB, K, but did get the win.)

The game deciding hit was an 8th inning Seth Smith Grand Slam. Jason Giambi also added his 2nd HR of the simulated season.

Seth Smith: 2-for-4, HR, 4 RBI, R
Ryan Spilborghs: 3-for-5, 2 RBI, R
Jason Giambi: 3-for-4, HR, RBI, 2 R
