Lineup Card -- Rockies @ Padres

Rockies Lineup (40-36)

  • CF Fowler
  • 2B Herrera
  • RF Gonzalez
  • LF Spilborghs
  • 1B Mora
  • C  Olivo
  • 2B Barmes
  • 3B Stewart
  • P   Hammel
Chris Nelson was the one sent down for Fowler.  That leaves the Rockies with no true backup middle-infielder, which I guess this means they trust Herrera to play shortstop when Barmes needs a day.  I still don't trust Mora to play second though.  Very odd roster move.

Padres Lineup (45-31)
  • CF Gwynn
  • 2B Eckstein
  • 1B Gonzalez
  • LF S. Hairston
  • 3B Headley
  • C   Torrealba
  • RF J. Hairston
  • SS Caberea
  • P   LeBlanc

Simulation

Rockies 4, Padres 3

WP: Jason Hammel -- 6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
LP:  Wade LeBlanc -- 6 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 7 K
S:    Huston Street -- IP, 1 H, 2 K

I would have preferred Helton go on the DL and get rest and a few rehab at-bats. Maybe we are going with Woody Page's plan of having outfielders at every position

Haha. I tend to agree on Helton. If Hawpe can't play the field, Helton can't do anything, and Giambi is limited to 1B, Tracy's hands are pretty tied on moves he can make. Barmes and Herrera are about to get run into the ground physically.
