Rock Solid Recrap: Edwar Cabrera Roughed Up In Major League Debut

Nationals 11, Rockies 5 (boxscore)

For now I think we'll just eliminate the "What Went Wrong" and "Turning Point" categories in losses and immediately begin with the pitching lines since the starting pitching and the losing pretty much go hand-in-hand.

Edwar Cabrera's Debut Line: 2 1/3, 7 R (5 ER), 5 H, 3 BB, 1 K, 3 HR, 65 pitches (33 strikes)

Put me in the camp who believes calling up Cabrera was a silly decision from an organizational standpoint and not fair to the young man at this point in his development. I indicated that feeling in the Lineup Card this afternoon, and his performance tonight only made the feeling stronger. He just wasn't ready for the challenge and looked overwhelmed from the get-go.

I think the results and the photo below bear that out.

Jeremy Guthrie's Piggyback Line: 4 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 2 K, 60 pitches (39 strikes)

Fine. Whatever. Will someone take him off our hands now?

Fun Facts That Suck

- The Nationals had not scored double figures in their first 71 games this season. After Wednesday's victory, they have now scored double figures in back-to-back against Colorado. (Via Tracy Ringolsby)

- Nationals starter Jordan Zimmerman has now made 15 starts this season. He's pitched at least six innings in ALL 15 of those starts. (@Nationals)

- Rockies starters, on the other hand, have this going for them.

What's Next: What, you wanted to read more about tonight's game?

Why?

The series with Washington wraps up on Thursday at 1:10. As far as I know, the pitching matchup will be Josh Outman (0-3, 8.64) vs. Edwin Jackson (4-4, 2.91), but you never with the Rockies. Maybe they'll call up Tyler Matzek overnight and throw him into this mess.

Final Thoughts

Enough said. Stay safe, everybody.
