Rock Solid Recap: Stack'em Up

Not only are the Rockies stacking up victories... 5 in a row

They're stacking up some long balls as well... Smith-to-CarGo-to-Spilborghs.

That makes 16 dingers in their last 9 games.

And hey, they're stacking up the whoppers and tacos for Rockies fans as well.

Rockies 8, Diamondbacks 2

Winning Player: Seth Smith

This is a retroactive Winning Player selection.  He deserved it last night for hitting two bombs with the flu.  He deserves it even more today for extending the lead from 4-2 to 6-2... while even sicker than he was last night.

I don't know where he found the strength, but I can appreciate the energy it must take just to get out of bed feeling that awful. Hopefully he feels better tomorrow night.

Lineup Card: Rockies vs D-Backs

Big start today for Jason Hammel.  Not that his spot in the rotation is in any immediate danger, he just needs to keep showing us some consistency after a slow start to the year and then the groin injury.

Unlike a lot of Rockies fans, I'm on Hammel's side.  I think he's a solid #5 starter that a number of teams would like to have.  It was clear most fans don't agree with that after reading some criticism of his start in Kansas City.

I actually thought the start was solid.  I mean anytime you can pitch into the 7th inning in an AL park with only two runs allowed, you've pitched well.  True a couple more runs were tacked on in the 7th, but it's hard to find a lot to complain about.

That said, he may have to be a little better than he was last Friday to beat Dan Haren today.
