Rock Solid Recap: Best Pitching Performance In Team History?

Rockies 7, Padres 0

A record crowd of 49,509 witnessed arguably the Rockies greatest pitching performance, ever.

Let's get right into it.

Official Scorer

Winning Player: Jorge De La Rosa (1-0)

Duh.

Not enough cliches and adjectives in the world to describe how special he was today. About the 5th inning I said he had close to no-hit stuff. I don't know, looking back now I'd say that's the closest we've seen a Rockies pitcher come to never being touched. The lone hit he gave up in seven innings would have been a routine grounder had it not been for the hit-and-run call.

Hell, the other hit San Diego had was a broken bat dumper off Betancourt in the 8th. Throw in Esmil Rogers' 1-2-3 9th inning and the 12 total strikeouts, I don't think there is an argument. This is the best nine inning pitching performance I've ever seen from the Rockies. Total domination.

But center stage belongs to Jorge.  He's about to be a filthy rich man in about eight months.

RISP Rating

Much better today. The two-run single from Ian Stewart really broke the ice. Todd Helton then had a big two-out RBI single an inning later. And Clint Barmes finally provided that knockout punch we didn't get the last two games in Milwaukee.

Solid B+

Chacin Also Deals

In case you haven't heard, Jhoulys Chacin was pretty brilliant himself last night in the Colorado Springs opener.  5 innings, 1 Hit, 1 Walk and 6 strikeouts.  Michael Paulk continues to be my favorite minor league Rockie, as he was 2-for-4 with a triple.

Eric Young Jr.?  0-for-4.

*****

Rockies go back to work tomorrow night against Mat (that's correct, one t) Latos.
