Rock Solid Recap: RISP Fail

Brewers 5, Rockies 4

Old Habits Die Hard

The Rockies oldest, dirtiest and most annoying habit has been failure to hit with runners in scoring position. It plagued them all through last season, and it reared its nasty little head once again today in Milwaukee.

1-for-12.

You go 1-for-12, you lose. If you didn't lose, you deserved to. It's pretty cut and dry that way.

Brewers Offense

The last two games have made me appreciate Ubaldo's Opening Day start even more. This Brewers lineup is loaded with tough outs. Of course we know about Braun and Fielder. Rickie Weeks and Casey McGehee are underrated hitters that could bust out this season. Carlos Gomez and Alcides Escobar add a new dimension of speed.

And then there's veterans Jim Edmonds, Craig Counsell and Greg Zaun.

Yeah, I'm not going to take it that far, but it's still a solid lineup. If they get any kind of consistent pitching, they'll challenge for the second in the NL Central. They aren't catching the Cardinals.

Official Scorer

Losing Player: Jason Giambi (0-1)

His second inning error with two outs created a run for Milwaukee that ended up being the difference. It really goes to show just how important defense is. Especially on days when your offense goes into a collective funk.

Also, I understand the off days and rotating guys to stay fresh. I have no problem with that. I just think Jim Tracy should make it a priority to have the Rockies best infield defense in there the days Aaron Cook pitches. You know, since he throws a pretty good sinker.  That wasn't the case today, and it was costly.

1-12 is pathetic. We should have scored 10 easily today. Padres will pay for that this weekend!

Tulowitzki's strikeout with Fowler on third was the big killer. That allowed them to walk Giambi and get out on unharmed on Olivo's double play. Need better from the RBI man.

aaron cook was the loser. he had a chance to pitch over giambi's error but failed. he wasn't good.
