Spring Training Hits & Misses: Game 15 vs. Cincinnati

Hits

The New Commercials are in!

And they're starring Rockies season ticket holders, which is a pretty cool concept.

Here's my favorite...

And this one is pretty cool, too!

Misses

Alex White

First Inning: He plunked lead-off man Drew Stubbs, but was able to wiggle out of danger with a popout, a strikeout of former MVP Joey Votto, and groundout from Scott Rolen.

Second Inning: He wasn't quite as fortunate. After walking Jay Bruce to lead-off, White would unravel a bit in facing ten Reds batters. Four of those would ultimately score (three on a home run by Stubbs), but at least he kept the inning from completely exploding when he fanned Bruce the second time around with the the bases loaded. There was also an error from Brandon Wood in there that extended the later portion of the inning, but didn't result in any runs.

Third and Fourth Inning: White bounced back with a 1-2-3 third inning behind a groundout and two flyouts. The fourth included a fantastic defensive play from Nolan Arenado to rob Stubbs of a bunt single, and a walk to Paul Janish. White closed it down by retiring Votto for the third time.

Overall: An uninspiring outing to be sure for White. He'll show you flashes of the guy many believe he'll become (see Votto at-bats), but there's a lot to clean up in terms of the free base runners (especially to begin innings) and then compounding them with that one poorly located pitch.

Brandon Wood

Meh. Committed the error at second base and struck out two more times. He's quickly going from intriguing to being Brandon Wood again.

Got Their Work In

Guillermo Moscoso

Moscoso was second in line to pitch tonight, so he ended facing several of Cincinnati's backups in his three scoreless innings. But you still have to be encouraged by the fact that he took care of his business impressively (allowed only one single). The was likely good enough to move him comfortably ahead of Alex White in the battle for the No 5 spot. Tyler Chatwood may also be entering that mix, and Josh Outman has an opportunity to do the same tomorrow afternoon when he was starts against the Dodgers

Oh, yeah, and the score in case you're wondering

Not much going on for the Rockies bats tonight against Mat Latos and Brett Tomko. However, they did manage to plate three in the ninth against prominent Reds reliever Carlos Fisher, but fell short when Chad Tracy was thrown out (for the second time) at home following a Tim Wheeler single. Tracy did at least double a run home earlier in the inning, so that was good. He was a pinch-runner for Jordan Pacheco the first time he was gunned down.

Anyway, Cincinnati wins it 4-3.

What's next

I already mentioned the Rockies will face the Dodgers tomorrow afternoon. That game will be the first Root Sports broadcast of the spring, and the first pitch will come your way around 2:10 MT.
