Spring Training Hits & Misses: Game 23 vs. San Francisco

Hits

Jordan Pacheco

Pacheco led the Rockies offensive attack with three hits (all singles) this afternoon. Just another casual reminder that he can really hit and that he'll be traveling with the Rockies to Houston for opening day.

Tyler Colvin

Another start, another multi-hit game for the guy I'm now openly pulling for to make the Rockies opening day roster.

Memo to Charlie Blackmon: You better get healthy relatively soon. Like yesterday.

Misses

Dexter Fowler

First his fiance takes to Twitter to praise Giants fans and elbow Rockies fans in the ribs. (A tweet she later deleted.) Then he goes 0-for-4 to drop his spring average to .125.

Question to Dexter Fowler: How does a platoon with Charlie Blackmon or Tyler Colvin sound?

Got Their Work In

Juan Nicasio

5.2 IP, 3 ER, 10 H, 0 BB, 6 K, 96 pitches

An unspectular line for Nicasio, but with his health no longer a question and his spot in the rotation now locked in, all that really matters is that he continued to build arm strength while working on commanding his secondary pitches, and even honing his pickup move (he got Mike Fontenot).

I'd say he's pretty close to ready.

Esmil Rogers

IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 2 K

Today's line won't strengthen his case, but a bullpen spot remains Esmil's to lose. And that's a good thing if you ask me, because for once Rogers knows exactly what his role will be entering the season, and can prepare accordingly. I'm marking him down as one of my Rockies sleepers.

Jorge De La Rosa

Jack Corrigan told us during the broadcast that De La Rosa was popping the mitt with his fastball while throwing his first live batting practice session since his Tommy John surgery last season. Here's some visual proof from the Rockies on Twitter.

De La Rosa remains on track for an early June return. Here's hoping the good news keeps on coming.

Oh, yeah, and the score in case you're wondering

The Rockies used a four-run third inning to grab the advantage and then held on for a 7-6 victory. Aside from the already mentioned players, Todd Helton and Chris Nelson also recorded multi-hit games and played a big role in the win.

What's next

The Rockies return to Root Sports on Sunday afternoon for a 2:10 MT battle with the Cincinnati Reds. I'm more than a little excited about that!
