Looking Ahead: Game 5 (vs San Diego)

Jason Hammel vs. Mat Latos

In four starts against San Diego last season, Jason Hammel averaged under five innings per, with an ugly 5.79 ERA.

Of course there's always a little caveat to these numbers, and in Hammel's case it's that his first two starts, which lasted a total of 6 1/3 innings, both came shortly after his move to the rotation, and also while the Rockies collectively sucked. So we'll just throw those two starts out.

That leaves him with a 6 inning average and a 2.25 ERA. Mhm... that's much better.

Hammel's gameplan tonight should be a rather simple one: Don't let anyone other than Adrian Gonzalez on base.  That way, when Gonzalez hits his inevitable home run, it won't kill you.

Mat "One T" Latos has only made ten career starts and just one of those came against Colorado. That's not nearly enough information for me to make up some non-sensical analysis. He's right-handed, so expect to see the Rockies left-handed lineup. Maybe even Seth Smith!

MLB 10 The Show Simulation

Padres 9, Rockies 7

The Show simulates Rockies games like it's 1999. I'm not just talking about the Coors Field games either, the Milwaukee games also had a good bit of scoring in them.

Jason Hammel took it on the chin, allowing 5 earned over 5 1/3 innings. However, two of his runs scored on a Scott Hairston 3-run homer allowed by Matt Daley. Those inherited runs are a killer. This gave San Diego a 6-1 lead in the 6th.

The Rockies would score 5 of their own in their 6th to tie it. Ian Stewart had an RBI double, Chris Iannetta lauched a 3-run homer, and Clint Barmes chipped in an RBI triple. After trading runs in the 7th, Manny Corpas would run into trouble in the 9th, eventually allowing the two deciding runs to score.

So let's try to keep Manny out of this game tonight if we can.

Adrian Gonzalez: 2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R

Scott Hairston: 2-for-5, HR, 2B, 4 RBI, R

Clint Barmes: 3-for-4, 3B, RBI
